Grand Tetons October 2025

It was a long drive from Huntsville, Alabama to Victor, Idaho but worth every hour of it.  We had seen the Tetons from the south end of Yellowstone many years ago and determined then that we wanted to visit, and it lived up to our expectations.  We stayed at the Moose Creek Ranch just outside Victor and drove over the pass to Jackson and the Tetons each day.  The accommodations were clean, spacious, and reasonably priced for the area, and the staff was most helpful.

Frieda, as supportive as ever, got up every morning to leave the ranch by 5am so I could get the sunrise striking different mountain peaks.  We did not see a lot of wildlife, but the stunning landscape more than made up for it.  The cottonwoods and aspen were still in full fall color in early October enhancing the scenes.  You are at 6,000 feet elevation along the Snake River and the Teton peaks rare up another 6,000 feet right in front of you.  It is truly breath taking.  If you haven’t been there, I really recommend you plan to do so as soon as you can.  The glaciers are melting here as everywhere so there is no time to waste if you want to get the full effect of this awesome terrain.

‍ ‍Next Trip: Acadia NP and Maine Coast Fall 2026

We are planning to drive to Maine and tour the coastal area from Portland to Lubek in the fall of 2026.  We plan to base in Ellsworth and take day trips to scenic spots along the coast.  Of course, we plan to spend several days in Acadia NP though the reservation system may put a kink in my plans to be there in the best light.

I’m researching to find places in and out of the park that will offer some different takes on the ocean, fall foliage and some lighthouses.  If you have spent some time in this area, I would appreciate any suggestions you might have for places to make images outside the standard postcard setups.
